I think the movie pretty much sucked. The actors preformed well-- it's just the script. It's too dramatic. And, lets face it, we could all stand it if Odysseus had had his shirt on more often. I realize that The Odyssey is a dramatic story, but the way all that drama was portrayed in the movie made it almost comical. One thing that I liked was Hermes. This Hermes looked like a grown-up Peter Pan on steroids and rubbed down with golden oil. He definetly added some humor to the movie. (as if the movie itself wasn't humorous!)
I think that if the portrayal hadn't been so dramatic the movie might have been better. Also, it would have been better without all the references to his hands. I didn't get what that was about. "These hands that brought you into the world." The movie focused so much on Odysseus's journey that it didn't focus on the love story side of the story. The whole reason Odysseus wants to go home is because of Penelope. Yes, while it does mention the love side to the story, these glimpses are not often and far between. And these, too, are over dramatized. (201)
