My candid opinion of the movies is that, had they both been filmed at the same time, they should have put the Juliet from the Zeffirelli version with the Romeo from the '97. 34 words
I liked the Zeffirelli version because it was a more conventional approach. It took place in the era it was written, the costumes were pretty close to true (those tights!), and the ways Romeo and Juliet die are the same as in the written work. I think it set the mood well, too. The scenery was on target for the era and the language didn't sound awkward. They also had some great actors. The girl who played Juliet was passionate and, yes Mr. Rad, good at dying. 132 words
I liked the '97 for a different reason. It was a completely unconventional telling of Romeo and Juliet. The first major difference between the written play and the movie, is that they take place at completely different eras. The original work takes place in Elizabethan England, and the '97 takes place in, well, 1997. Another difference is the weapons used-- where the original work uses swords and daggers, the '97 uses guns and pistols. They both use the same language though. The '97 incorporates the original language in a way that sounds awkward at times, but for the most part sounds almost normal. 236 words
Personally, I think I liked the Columbia University the best!! Just kidding. I liked the Zeffirelli the best because I feel it captured the themes, emotions, and tone of the play the best. 269 words
